Student privacy & compliance
FERPA aligned
Career Clutch acts as a “School Official” under FERPA and uses student data only to provide services authorized by the school or district.
COPPA compliant (school-controlled use)
Students under 13 access Career Clutch only through their school or district. Schools may provide consent on behalf of parents for classroom and school-authorized educational tools, as permitted under COPPA.
Data ownership
Schools retain ownership of student data. Career Clutch processes student data solely to deliver the service and as described in our Privacy Policy.
Security & SOC 2 aligned controls
Career Clutch maintains an information security program designed to align with the SOC 2 Trust Services Criteria for Security, Availability, and Confidentiality.
While Career Clutch is not currently SOC 2 certified, our internal controls and practices are designed to be SOC 2–aligned and follow industry-recognized best practices.
Key security controls include:

- Role-based access (least privilege)
- Multi-factor authentication for administrative access
- Data protection
- Encryption in transit (TLS)
- Encryption at rest

Districts may request additional security documentation, including a security overview or control summary, during procurement review.
Responsible use of AI
Career Clutch uses artificial intelligence to support practice-based learning and skill development, not to replace educators or counselors.
Our AI:
- Simulates interview scenarios for student practice
- Provides feedback aligned to skill growth and reflection
- Supports educators in scaling opportunities for students
Our AI does not:
- Provide therapy or mental health diagnoses
- Make hiring, placement, or high-stakes decisions
- Replace human judgment or educator oversight
AI-generated feedback may vary and should be reviewed in context by educators and students
Data retention & deletion
- Student data is retained only for the duration of the school’s agreement
- Schools may request export or deletion of student data at any time
- Upon termination, data is deleted or returned within a reasonable timeframe (typically 30–60 days), with backups purged according to retention schedules
